Energy Costs: A Real Burden in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is known as a powerhouse in energy production, especially within the PJM Interconnection—a massive regional grid that serves 13 states and the District of Columbia. As the largest electricity producer in this region, Pennsylvania generates a diverse mix of energy from natural gas, coal, nuclear, and renewables. This energy fuels millions of homes and businesses not only in Pennsylvania but across the entire PJM footprint.

If that’s the case—how can this happen in a state that produces so much energy?

What’s really concerning is that the administration says affordability isn’t a problem, but that just doesn’t match what many families are going through. People are feeling the financial strain, and ignoring that only slows down the changes we need. We have to expand energy assistance, improve efficiency programs, encourage more competition in the market, and upgrade the grid. These are the key steps to make sure Pennsylvania’s energy resources actually help bring down the bills for everyday people like you and me.

Because at the end of the day, energy affordability isn’t just a policy issue—it’s about the everyday reality of people trying to get by. And we can’t wait any longer.
